Pickled Dulse: A Briny, Bold Taste of the Sea
Pickling not only preserves your dulse, it transforms it into a savory addition to brighten up simple dishes or stand on its own as a snack.
It’s not only delicious, but also quick and easy - all you need to do is create a simple brine. Here’s a basic brine idea to create approximately three 8oz jars of pickled dulse:
- Water (1.5 cups)
- Rice Vinegar (4.5 Tbsp)
- Soy Sauce (3 Tbsp)
- Sugar (½ tsp)
- Salt (½ tsp)
I also added optional seasonings like garlic and peppercorn to enhance the flavor of the dulse.
This recipe uses 0.75 oz of dried dulse, or about ½ lbs of fresh dulse. If using dried dulse, allow it to rehydrate in cool water for 5-10 minutes. Once your dulse is ready, pack it in an airtight container, like a mason jar, then add the cooled brine over top. Refrigerate your jars once ready.
